Newsletter November 2007

Hello everyone,

I hope you had a fun Halloween. I was on a plane, but fortunately the landing wasn't too scary. An earlier flight was a bit scary, but mostly from the standpoint of seeing the fires in southern California at night. One burning area in particular was larger than the nearby town. At night, it was easy to see size of the orange glow compared to the size of the street light glow. My sympathies go out to everyone down there.

Here in San Francisco, things are going well. Temperatures range from warm to chilly, most days are sunny, and it is a great time to be outside. That's the problem. My foot is injured, so I can't run, and National Novel Writing Month is here, so I want it to be raining. Then I can feel good about locking myself in my office for hours at a time.

Actually I'm a bit behind on my daily word count. I won't bore you with numbers (444 words on day 8) but life has been overwhelming this month. That's why it is the 8th and I'm just getting the newsletter out. Things are starting to settle down, so it is time to start catching up. I could crank out tons of words with Dragon Naturally Speaking, but stopping to correct the errors takes time and ruins my flow. However, if I don't correct them now, I'll have no chance of remembering what I was trying to say later. And as my Crit Group can tell you, Dragon-o's can range from humorous to cryptic.

Ah, what the heck. I'll just go for it. Nano is to noveling what sketching is to painting. It is supposed to be messy.

So, there you go. It is not too late to start. Join me as an underdog and start a novel today! If you need a topic, how about: When aliens land at the [local mall/downtown/nearby cornfield], [the main character who happens to be a lot like you] gets taken aboard the ship. Inside, she/he finds...

Good luck!
