Newsletter March 2009
Hello everyone,
Ugh. Somehow I'm two weeks late. What happened? I've been sick and my wife and baby have been sick as well, so lots of sleeping and waking up in the middle of the night to clean up baby spit ups. That's life in the big city for ya. I was on the mend, but seem to have taken a downturn yesterday, but I'm hoping it was just temporary allergies from being down in SoCal for the day. Maybe I'm allergic to Orange County?
In baby news, Abby has been crawling like mad, so nothing is safe in the house. She can also pull herself up and get around while holding onto things. Walking will happen any day now. She can already stand up unsupported for 20-30 seconds at a time. She's learned how to point as well, so she can tell us what she wants. And if we don't give it to her, she can get over to it and get it herself. Ahh, my little baby is becoming an independent girl. Sad, but exciting.
Anyhoo, my big focus lately has been on selling a short story. Not just any story, mind you, but one that features my quantum mechanics explanation for ghosts. The reason I want to sell it is because Shannon Page, my friend, fellow writer, and now co-author, is currently working on a novel set in the same world. I came up with a detailed plot, she is writing the first draft, then I'll edit, and back and forth and back and forth until it is ready to sell. I'm very excited because it is a fun project, and by pooling our strengths (and industry contacts), we should be able to get some traction with the novel. If I can sell the short story, it will help when marketing the novel.
Also, Shannon has recently upgraded her website, so go check it out: http://shannonpage.net
In other great news, fellow San Franciscan writer Scott Browne has not only sold his zombie book, Breathers (which is out now, so go get a copy), but it was picked up for filming and Diablo Cody will be directing! He is living the dream for us all. Go Scott! His info is: http://www.sgbrowne.com/ http://www.undeadanonymous.com/
By the movement I'm seeing on the baby monitor, I'll be changing a diaper and making a bottle soon, so I will leave you with a book recommendation. Spook Country by William Gibson. Not his best, but entertaining. My major complaint is that it is some weird, new paperback format. What's up with the tall, skinny paperbacks? Half Trade and half Mass Market paperback. Why? Just to piss me off? Now I need to rearrange my shelves again.
Take care and stay well,
--Todd
